Although the exact number of people who have HPV is unkown, it is estimated that at least fifty percent of sexually active adults will contract some form of HPV in their lifetime and it is thought that eighty percent of women over fifty have contracted some form of HPV.

The most common victims of this unpleasant virus are sexually active women with a family history of cervical cancer, although it is easy for anyone to contract the virus, it is especially dangerous for these women because of the risk of cervical cancer.

Hideout: HPV resides in and is contracted from others mouths, genitals and anal glands, but is usually killed off between several weeks to several months, and rarely several years depending on ones immune and the type of strain contracted.

Degree of damage caused by the strains of HPV rated from 1-10 Strains 16, 18 = 8 (these cause nintey-five percent of cervical cancer ) Strains 6, 11 = 3 ( these cause ninety percent of genital warts cases) Strains 1-5, 7-10, 12-15, 17, 19-100 = 1 (these strains will either do nothing or cause a minor case of genital warts)

Unfortunatly HPV cannot be treated once contracted other than by fighting it off with ones own immune system, but it can be avoided by using protection during sex. Also a vaccine is avalible for women to prevent cervical cancer cause by this virus.

The most common injuries of HPV are cervical cancer, genital warts and occasionally legions.
